All About Eyes

Nope, you are not too young for eye cream. I’m in my late twenties and I wish I had starting using this stuff when I was 23. Oh the folly of youth! Youngins, if you are reading this it is NOT too late! SAVE YOURSELVES THE HEARTACHE AND BUY EYE CREAM TODAY!

Apart from your skin, your eyes are the biggest giveaway of your beauty sins (and age)-  not drinking enough water, not getting enough sleep, having any semblance of a life etc. Obviously proper rest and staying hydrated go a long way towards keeping you looking bright eyed and bushy tailed, but most of us don’t get the opportunity to sleep for 9 uninterrupted hours. Plus, having tired looking eyes can be genetic- I started getting dark circles under my eyes when I was 11.

Eye creams are specially formulated to moisturise and treat the ever so delicate skin around our eyes. There’s an eye cream for any eye condition- dark circles, puffiness and lines. I personally don’t think that any of these conditions can be reversed over time with any products. Only cosmetic procedures can sort puffiness and lines, and for hereditary dark circles theres nothing that can be done sadly. But eye creams can definitely temporarily reduce under eye bags , and in the case of lines around the eyes PREVENT you from getting them. Which is okay too.

These are the three i’ve tried (In order of appearance)

Clarins Eye Contour Gel

Last year I got ridiculously long semi permanent lashes for my husband’s birthday party. They were so heavy that the stress of carrying the weight would make me wake up with huge bags under my eyes. During that time, I used this product every single morning.

I really like this actually. It is a lightweight cooling gel that contains Gingko Biloba to brighten dark circles, and caffeine to de-puff. It did nothing for my dark circles, but it definitely visibly reduced puffiness. This product is even more effective when it is cold, so #thenicolecoderecommends storing this in the fridge and applying in the mornings to wake those eyes up- so your coworkers don’t ask you daft questions about your personal life when you get to work 🙂

Price- N10050 from Montaigne Place, The Palms, Lagos.

Clarins Super Restorative Total Eye Concentrate

I got this in America from Nordstrom (also available at The Palms, currently not in stock), and the salesperson assured me that this is a life changing product that will have me looking 18 forever! Its supposed to be an all in one eye cream that fixes pretty much any eye area concern you may have.

It is decent, but it overpromises. No magic results, and it is quite pricey (I got it for $88).

And now, I present BAE

Dr Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Triple Correction Eye Serum

This is brightening, anti aging serum to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Active ingredients are ferulic acid and retinol which both have amazing age fighting properties, and caffeine to minimise puffiness and tighten the eye area. I LOVE THIS. When I get lazy and skip it for a few days, I see small lines creeping in around my eyes. The devil is a liar! I will never be without this product again.

To be used at night only, as retinol makes your skin more sensitive to the sun.

How to Use Eye Cream

Use middle finger to gently dab into entire eye area in a ‘Press and Release’ motion. Do NOT rub as the skin is delicate.

Do you use eye cream? Have you tried any of these?

Let me know,

    Hey Nicole.

I discovered eye cream last year as well.
As I always say- its easier to slow down the ageing process than to reverse it. There’s no reverse in mother nature’s gear box.

I use lamers eye concentrate- and so far it’s okay. I only started using it this year ; may be too early to swear by it

But then again. It’s when we are all on our 40’s we will clearly be able to point out who invested in their skin and who didnt. So I don’t see any visible result but I see it as an investment for the future

Thanks for this insight. Actually I’ve used Clarins shea butter eye cream. I didn’t see much difference on my eyes. Am going to try this Dr. Dennis Gross.
