19 Apr Dye Your Hair Black…Without Using Hair Dye
I’ve mentioned on the blog about 12 million times now that I dyed my hair SIX times last year. When I decided to respect myself and go back to black, my hair was already damaged beyond repair and I was so worried that if I dyed it ONE MORE TIME, my hair would actually pack up and exit the premises forever. I thought about using a Semi Permanent black dye, but that still has some ammonia in it. Then I randomly remembered the Natur Vital Colour Hair Mask! First got introduced to this by my friend Isoken ages ago who uses the shampoo and mask to wash her extensions in order to dye them black without using hair dye and compromising the quality of the hair.
I couldn’t find the shampoo, so I got the mask from Ebeano and I’ve been using it faithfully since then (May last year).
What is it?
It is a hair mask made with Henna leaves. Henna extract strengthens and adds shine to the hair while acting as a natural colorant. It also has Wheatgerm Oil (which is rich in Vitamin E) to hydrate and nourish.
Instructions on Bottle
After washing, apply the mask to wet hair. Comb through from roots to ends and leave to work for 20 minutes.
How I Actually Use It
After washing, I apply the mask liberally to wet hair. I leave on for 10 minutes, then add a liberal amount of my current favourite conditioner (Creme of Nature Argan Oil Intensive Conditioning Treatment). I leave on for another 15 minutes, then I rinse everything off.
The colour lasts 3-4 washes, but to keep my hair jet black (I like my hair colour in extremes. If my hair is going to be black it has to be jet black, if its going to be blonde it has to be damn near platinum. No highlights over here baby!) I use this mask everytime I wash my hair.
Using a relaxer obviously takes out all the colourant, so my hairstylist uses it after the relaxer and neutraliser have been washed out. We leave it in for 15 minutes, rinse off and condition properly. Relaxer makes hair more porous, so the colour can really permeate the hair shaft without causing any damage (Hurray!!)
This has been so great. I love that it actually nourishes your hair (not as much as regular conditioner obvs, but still) and you can get shiny black hair without compromising the health of your hair. The Colour Hair Mask is available for Red and Blonde Hair too. I tried the Blonde one a few years ago and it was scraps. Don’t bother. I haven’t tried the Red, but I wholeheartedly co-sign the Black.
The Natur Vital Colour Hair Mask is available at Ebeano Supermarket for N1200.
Has anyone tried this?
