Hot Beauty Trend- Hydraluron

Ah yes. An item Caroline Hirons convinced me to get. Mrs Hirons- making your girl broke since 2013.

Hydraluron’s primary ingredient is a pure form of hyaluronic acid, which is an incredibly hydrating substance that holds up to ‘1000 times its weight in water’ and provides below the surface hydration, leading to visibly glow-y and plumped up skin.

This serum isn’t only for dry, dehydrated skin. It is also ย recommended for oily skin (hurray!) as it can help control oil production. This makes sense because oil glands go into overdrive when the suckers feel your skin is dehydrated. Which is why it is NEVER a good idea to skip moisturiser if you have oily skin (I used to do this, but I know better now).

It is important to note that this isn’t a moisturiser replacement, it is a moisture BOOSTER that will suck the water from your moisturiser deep into your skin. Genius stuff really.

I use a pea sized amount all over my face in the morning after using my toner. I then follow up with moisturiser (currently La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo) and sunscreen (La Roche Posay Anthelios 50).

Hydraluron in my humble opinion is a fantastic product. It has made a small difference in my oil production (I’ll take ANY improvement there) but more importantly it makes my skin feel smooth and soft, and definitely gives a moisture kick to my Effaclar Duo which I quite like but isn’t moisturising enough.

Have you tried Hydraluron or any products with Hyaluronic Acid?

Let me know,

Hi Anuli, I’m still trying to find an amazing one but in the meantime I’m still using the Proactiv Revitalising Toner (salicylic acid). Open to suggestions myself actually.

LEGIT! I don’t use this actual one. I buy pure hyaluronic acid off amazon for about 20 box and apply it before my day and night cream. It has totally changed my skin. I now use it all over my body as a babe needs to glow all over. Haha

Yay! A fellow “Hironsite”. Hydraluron has done wonders for my skin especially when followed with a hydrating essence like the caudalie grape water before moisturizer. Looking forward to more skin care recs esp stuff that can be found here. Super excited ๐Ÿ™‚

Hironsites unite! There seem to be a lot of us here #teamCaroline!
Thank you for your observation about stuff that can be found here. I have to be honest- most of my skincare products I tend to buy abroad and this site is based on what I use myself, but it is AMAZING how much can be found in Lagos now. Bioderma, La Roche Posay, you name it! That being said I am going to try my best re: putting up stuff thats available in Nigeria.
Thanks again and I TOO am super excited xx

Do you find that it helps to reduce oil production on the skin? Despite all I do to my skin, my face is always swimming with oil by the middle of the day.

Hi there. Ah yes, my skin is the same way- really oily. It has helped a little bit, but nothing life changing. The best solution is to find an amazing primer-thinking about getting the SmashBox Photo Finish one myself, and drinking tons and tons of water xx

Hi, after several investments in primers, I recently started using milk of magnesia as a primer…it works wonders! I use the Dr Phillips brand. Try it.

Hi there- I use milk of magnesia when I have an event or wedding. Its pretty good. But its not advisable for everyday use because it is extremely alkaline, and it changes the pH level of your skin over time leading to all sorts of skin issues xx

    Hi Nicole,

Thank you for all the useful tips. Great work! What day and night cream do you use? Also does hydraluron work for uneven skin tone and sun burn? Cant wait for the hair segment!

Thanks so much Margaret! Really appreciate it. All will be revealed in my skin regimen post when I get round to typing it lol. But Hydraluron definitely helps with skin restoration although you should not expect drastic results overnight xx

    Hi Nicole,

I was wondering, any tips on making drinking water more enticing? Lol

I try, I honestly do but water is just sooo blah to me and sometimes bitterish!

Any tips will be great! xx

Hi there BeeSkit- I would suggest all those fancy fruit infused water things that have become hugely popular on the gram. But thats a lot of effort. Do you know what works for me? I call it the Beyonce method.LOL! I literally tell myself with each sip that I am now prettier, healthier and closer to being Beyonce than I was a sip ago and thats what gets my vain ass through 4L of fluid a day (This is a true story.) All jokes aside- Just dig deep, you can totally do this! Please let me know how it goes ๐Ÿ™‚ xx

Biko Nicole Nne, tell us how or where we can get this Hydraluron from in Lagos? I need this moisture thingy. Currently, i use Elizabeth Arden’s visible difference which i think is good but i would not mind something better. I had these breakouts 2 months ago on one cheek which left scars. I seriously need to clear that side of my face, kindly recommend or anyone who has gone through a breakout session and overcame the spots.

Nne ndeewo! I currently don’t know anyone who sells it Lagos sadly ๐Ÿ™ If I hear anything I will be sure to let you know! Then the best thing I know to use for acne scarring is Vitamin C serum. The Obagi one is very good apparently (haven’t tried it personally) and I’ve seen it at MedPlus at The Palms. And the Image skincare one is supposed to be the Bee’s Knees. Hope this helps and let me know how it goes xx

I must say Nicole, your site is fast becoming a guilty pleasure for moi. I used to have problems with uneven skin tone. However, because i do laser on my face (unwanted hair, aarrgghh) i have been advised by my Dokinta to use Image as it is clinically proven to do a lot of things (SPF 50 to help blotches, to even skin tone and something else, cannot remember now (porous brain). I haven’t started using it coz i’m waiting for my present one to finish.

More importantly, for even skin tone (tried and tested), i use neutrogena acne soap. You know the white and red one, the packaging i mean . That sucker is magic. It’s mostly said in the U.S.

Hi Susu-you shouldn’t use body lotion to moisturise your face. You should look for a face moisturiser that deals with your skin concern (dry, sensitive, oily, acne prone). There are so many out there. Secondly you must use moisturiser everyday, it is so important- you can’t skip this step. A good place to start will be to implement a basic regimen. Use a cleanser, then use a toner, then a moisturiser.

I’m not sure what your skin type is but if you have dry or sensitive skin, products by a brand called Simple are a good place to start. If you have oily skin then Neutrogena or Clean and Clear. All these brands are very easily available in Nigeria)

Please read my post on Hot Cloth Cleansing- that is also helpful in keeping the skin smooth.

A toner is pretty easy to identify as it is usually written there on the bottle. It is usually a very watery consistency and it may be acid based. If you read the bottle it will give you directions on how to use, and it will indicate what skin type should use it.

Its important to start a proper regimen so you can begin to understand what your skin likes and doesn’t tolerate. It may take a while of experimenting but try something out, give it 2 weeks, if it doesn’t work then move on to something else. This process may take some time but it is worth it.

Lastly, I am not a dermatologist and these are just suggestions, so if it doesn’t work I cannot be held liable ohhh!Lol

Hope this was helpful, and good luck.
