My Top 5 Beauty Products of 2015

Hello everyone,

HAPPY NEW YEARRRRRR! Please forgive me. If you follow my Instagram handle @thenicolecode (you don’t?why not?) you’d see that I’ve had a crazy holiday. I was in the village for a bit (Owerri for life!) and my younger sister got married. Feel free to check out the beautiful pictures using the Hashtag #thedoughs16 .

Anyways, thanks for your patience and thank you to everyone who sent me emails over the holidays telling me to post something soon. I even had people come up to me at the wedding like  ‘okay the wedding is over, so we expect a post on monday thanks’  (LOL!). God bless you for all your support.

What better way to kick off the new year on TheNicoleCode than with a roundup of my favourite products of 2015? Regular readers will have a good idea of which products I completely love, but heres a list of my Top 5.

Herbal Essences ‘Hello Hydration’ conditioner

I bought this randomly from Ebeano to use on my extensions. My hair was really dry and a bit tangles, so I washed it and left this conditioner in for about 6 hours. This is how my hair looked the next day

I quickly ran back to Ebeano to buy the last bottle, and they haven’t restocked it since then so i’ve run out. Why does life have to be this way? This is a definite winner for me.

YSL ‘Manifesto’ Eau de Parfum

I’m not big on perfume actually because I don’t like strong smells. I’d rather you smell of nothing than SLAP ME IN THE FACE with your perfume or cologne. It kills me. Is there anyone else like this? I also only like vanilla and citrus scents, so for the longest time I only used Jo Malone perfume. My husband was on a mission to find me a perfume I’d like and got me this from Duty Free. Ladies and Gents- this scent is the one. It is quite sweet (vanilla and musk undertones I believe) but it is very sensual and womanly. I love it and I am currently on my second bottle.

This was recommended by a reader in my Comments section. This gel is great for spot treating blemishes, and isn’t as harsh as the 10% Benzoyl Peroxide I had been using for years.

Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Triple Correction Eye Serum (read more about this HERE)

I cannot get enough of this eye serum. It really makes a difference in my eye area especially with any fine lines. I will most likely use this… foreverrrrr. (Cardi B voice. Those who get it get it)

La Roche Posay Anthelios 50 Daily Anti Aging Primer with Sunscreen (read more about this HERE)

This is the best sunscreen I have ever used. It has a beautiful silicone finish that doesn’t feel heavy at all, AND it works as a primer so it kind of blurs imperfections and lines and helps a little with oil production. Which gives your makeup a more flawless appearance.

Honourable Mentions for the following products

ORÍKÌ Mineralized Intensive Eye Treatment

BathKandy Turmeric and Black Pepper Soap

Fig Health Store Brightening Turmeric Black Soap

And thats it. What are YOUR favourite beauty discoveries of 2015?

There she is. I missed you o!.

My best beauty find of 2015 has got to be the incomparable PIXI GLOW TONIC. If I could type it in blood, I sure would. It has incredibly transformed by complexion, removing all the gunk, funk, century old dead skin cells, orisiri from my face that the ol’ soap and water, scrubs do not get rid off. It does a lot to reveal a beautiful complexion that has been desperately trying to reveal itself. I can’t speak highly enough of it. It’s certainly worth a look see.

Hi Ari! I have missed you too nwanne!

I don’t know how to say this. But hmm. I’m going to give the Glow Tonic one more try, because the few times I did use it, I broke out a little. I think my skin does not like glycolic acid, because I don’t understand. I think I’ll try again next week now that I don’t have a million products to use and review.

        Hi Nicole,
1st time on your blog but I just had to comment on PIXI GLOW TONIC. I don’t personally use it, but from what I understand it is a dupe (milder version) of Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 which I do use.

The thing about acids (lactic, glycolic, salicylic, etc) is that when starting a beauty regimen with them, there usually (not always) is a purging period (initial breakout). The simple explanation is that acids cause your skin cells to turnover faster, therefore they bring to the surface pimples below the skin surface that were already going to show up anyway but with acid use they show up at a faster rate (due to the faster skin cell turnover).

So you saying you broke out on PIXI GLOW is actually a good thing, it means it was working. I would encourage you to give it another try and this time give your skin a couple of weeks (or less) to purge. If you are still breaking out after a couple of weeks, then it might not be the best product for you.

PS: acid toners are the best thing ever made. Like Ari, I can not say enough good things about them. BR P50 lotion (actually a toner, not a lotion) is my holy grail beauty product. If I was told that I would need to get rid of all my beauty products including makeup and only keep 1, I would trash everything and keep my P50, it is that good.

          Hi Ony,

Thank you so so much for your comment. I’m actually aware about purging periods and try to give products time before I jump to any conclusions. I tried the Pixi Glow Tonic because as you mentioned, it is considered a milder version of the BR P50 Lotion. I tried the P50 (1970- with Phenol, only available in America) in May 2015 because it is supposed to be the greatest toner in the history of mankind. I REALLY tried to hang in there but after 2 months of huge painful below the surface cysts I had to accept that it wasn’t working for me. Whiteheads and small pimples would be considered a purge, cystic acne would probably not. Which is why I was so stoked to try the Pixi Glow because I reckoned the P50 1970 was too harsh for me. Still no dice sadly.

I have never seen a bad review of the Pixi Glow EVER though, and I MAY give it one more go because I CANNOT be left behind. So excited to meet someone who actually uses the P50 and loves it. SO JEALOUS! And thank you so much for sharing Ony. I love hearing from people who know their stuff xx

    Hi Nicole,
Welcome back, please can you recommend a good facial cleanser. I have really annoying blackheads that won’t budge. The Neutrogena pink grapefruit one I’m using isn’t helping much. Thanks x

Quite an interesting Blog I must say Nicole. Keep it up, we need more skincare awareness in Nigeria. I’m obsessed with skincare.

@Anita, for pixi-glow you can get it from Beauty Emporium, here’s their website, I use it and buy it from them.
