NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation

Hello everyone,

For most of last year I used the Black Up Full Coverage Foundation in shade HC04. It is a cream foundation that is REALLY full coverage- I still have a bit of scarring from blemishes so I only use full coverage foundation. It is a truly gorgeous product, it makes the skin look glow (you know how I feel about glow) and it is long lasting. I had seen a few reviews about the NARS foundation and asked my sister Mima Dough to get it for me to use during the day, as the Black Up one sometimes looks a bit TOO full on to go about my daily activities. But I never really got round to using it, the hold of the Black Up on my life was too strong. Everything was going swimmingly, until I stumbled upon a picture of myself on BellaNaija that was taken at the Zazaii store launch in December.

Flash can like to disgrace somebody oh. Clearly this foundation is NOT MY SHADE. And I just got a new tube. AND it costs almost N9000. So instead of going out to buy the HC05 and mixing it with this one, i thought I’d just try the NARS foundation.

I got it in the shade ‘Cadiz’. It is much more liquid than the Black Up which took me some getting used to, but it is also full coverage which is great. Because the consistency is light, it does appear ‘Weightless’ on the skin which is another plus, so you have a Barely There but Flawless base. It is also long lasting for us oily skinned ladies, leaves a dewy finish and is just genuinely a bomb foundation all round. I adore it.

(The one on the left is the Black Up, the one on the right is the NARS. Huge difference in consistency, the NARS is much lighter)

NARS says you only need one pump for the whole face (Lies, I probably use about 7). The instructions advise that you apply with your fingers, but I use a Beauty Blender obvs because this is 2016- if you are still not using a Beauty Blender you are on a long thing for real.

I had a quick look through all the popular Nigerian online beauty stores and the only one that seems it carry it is the ever sure Youtopia Beauty.

Oh, and here’s me with the NARS foundation on in the daytime (no editing or filter)

Has anyone tried either the Black Up Full Coverage or the Nars All Day Luminous Weightless foundations?

Let Me Know,

      Hi Alero Mii,

The NARS is great. My skin is really oily too- have you tried the Clinique ‘Dramatically Different’ Moisturising Gel? It really helps. And I really like the Becca Cosmetics ‘Ever Matte’ Powerless Refining Primer to help control shine. Or the Boots No 7 Beautifully Matte primer. Hope this was helpful and please don’t give up on makeup xx

Hello Nicole, as I am writing this, I am not wearing any make up at all. I have a veeeeeeeeery oily face, I have tried all sorts of primer from black-up to MAC, but nothing works. I feel so uncomfortable wearing foundation because after a while, my oily face takes over. Please what product will you recommend for someone like me?

Girl, this NARS is doing the damned thing, but I swear by Lancome Teint Idole! That ish is the business. Jackie Aina hyped it, then I tried it and the rest is history. When I whip it out mehnn, I look like a bullion van full of dollars. It doesn’t shift all day, it makes your skin glow so naturally. It’s worth a test

I also have combination to oily skin. I have never used the black up, but the Nars luminous foundation i have, it’s really good and stays all day with a primer, i use ( smash box photo finish) and set with a loose translucent powder. Other foundations i love and use are Forever make up HD foundation, Mac pro long wear foundation, laura mercier candle glow soft luminous foundation and lancome Teint idole ultra 24. these works well for me. i get bored with makeup products easily so i like to switch it up. and i also use the Clinique ‘Dramatically Different’ Moisturising Gel, with the 2 steps.

Nice review! I really want to try the Nars all day weightless foundation but my love for Mary Kay liquid foundation wont let me try it. I have tried Black up and it was great on me but expensive for everyday wear.

Hi Kiky! Firstly, I just spotted you on Instagram. You are gorgeous!
Secondly- I also love the Mary Kay foundation. I’m just so nervous to use it because there are sooooo many fakes out there, so unless I can get it from America, I simply can’t. I used a bad tube once and it was not cute at all. The NARS is definitely pricey but so worth it. I cannot imagine using anything else at this point xx

Not that you need validation from a complete stranger but Nicole your blog is amazing – well done! I loved the Nars at first but after a week or two, blehhh. And for the price, I could have bought two bottles of Mary Kay jeje. My oily girls, please try Milk of Magnesia as a primer. It works wonders! I’ve tried the holy grail..MAC, Smash Box, Laura Mercier..and this is the only thing that works. Just be sure to double wash your face and take it all off at the end of each day otherwise it will break you out.

And tbh, the Black Up foundation doesn’t look bad on you but BellaNigerians probably came hard, no mercy in the comment section lol.

LOL thank you but it is definitely just a tad too light. The NARS is a much better fit I think. And I have no idea re: comments to be honest as I trained myself a few years ago not to read blog comments because like you said, NO MERCY lol xx

      Hi O.O!
Thank you SO MUCH for saying that. And please I need all the encouragement I can get so I really appreciate this (and you).
Interesting about the NARS, for me its the opposite. I love it more everydayyyyy! I am a very big Mary Kay fan still, I’m just struggling with finding the right shade (Bronze 507 which everyone says should be my shade, comes off a bit orange on me). The NARS is pricey- you could have actually bought THREE tubes of the Mary Kay.

M.o.M- whilst being amazing for oil control, is actually quite bad for your skin long term and should only be used when you have to SHOW THEMMMM! (i.e weddings). M.o.M is extremely alkaline, and skin is slightly acidic. Over time it will end up changing the skin’s pH level allowing bacteria to thrive on the skin- leading to breakouts. It can also causes dryness and irritation. Double cleansing on top of all that will only irritate the skin more I’m afraid.

Try the No. 7 Beautifully Matte! I’m currently using it and it is more than halfway decent xx

” NARS says you only need one pump for the whole face (Lies, I probably use about 7).” This made me laugh! I like the idea of this foundation but 19,500 for a foundation? *coughs* Moving on…please what powder would you recommend for someone with oily skin? I recently got the Mac Mineralise skin finish natural (which is supposedly amazing) but it was a huge fail, on top of that it made my face itch like crazy. But since I conveniently convinced a colleague to buy it off me for 80% of the price, I’m not that angry. And I’ve decided that if she comes back to complain of any itch, I’m just going to look confused and suggest that she treats herself for Eczema…

Ehen…before I babble on, please what powder do you use or can you recommend for oily skin?

      Hi Kevwe!
Mannnn I KNOW re: spending almost 20k on foundation. I’ve been begging people to buy it from abroad for me so its not AS expensive, but still. *sigh*

The MAC Mineralize SkinFinish is great, but not for people like us with oily skin. I use the MAC StudioFix pressed powder, and it is AWESOME. 1) Because it helps keep the oil at bay 2) It has pretty good coverage for acne scarring. I use it over my NARS foundation and I couldn’t be happier. I think its definitely worth a shot xx

Hi Alexandra! Thank you so much for stopping by. My skin is EXACTLY like yours, so I feel your pain. I really like the Becca Cosmetics ‘Ever Matte’ Poreless Priming Perfector buuuuut its currently about N15,000. I quickly adjusted to the much more reasonably priced No 7 Beautifully Matte primer which I think retails for N6000 or N7000. The only powder that currently really works for me is the MAC StudioFix Pressed Powder, so I highly recommend that. I LOVE NARS and BlackUp foundation, but Mary Kay is a great cheap and cheerful option (if you can find the original). Hope this was helpful love xx

    Hi Nicole,
I stumbled on your blog this morning. And let’s say my fingers have literally been on my phone. I live in Toronto and am a BlackUp girl. Tho I feel the BlackUp liquid foundation is kinda heavy. I hardly ever wear makeup except there’s a major event. I’ll like to try NARS. So any ideas where I can get it North America? Cheers

Hi Aisha! Thank you so so much hun! I agree re: Black Up being a bit heavy. The NARS is awesome! And I’ve checked online for you- Its available at Sephora and Nordstrom. Please let me know if you try it xx

Hi Nicole, Yaaaaay you’re back!!! Stalked your blog for ages.

So i tried the NARS. Got it in a MED/DARK 4 MACAO.

Like you said its light weight and all. And it has a flawless finish but ill give it a 7 out of 10.

This is because i stumbled into Sephora and i happened to try out their Too Faced Born This Way Foundation.

Girl it is awesome! Really really good. You can check it out.

Plus you don’t have to buy the whole bottle. They give samples.

Glad to have you back. Cheers
